Fresh raspberry and baked blackberry cobbler exemplify the dichotomy of this wine: it is both lively and subtle, graceful and yet powerful.
The rich entry explodes with dried red fruit followed by hints of espresso grounds and graham cracker. Firm tannins overlay the incredible ripe and rich fruit that our Jack’s Cabin Zinfandel offers.
Briary dark fruit, smoked meat and hints of subtle oak punctuate the nose of this wine. On the entry there is both power and grace in the phenomenal tannin structure and the focus the wine retains. The brooding nature of the fruit is apparent as are the complex layers that this wine has to reveal. Wild berry, graphite and hints of herb are complemented by notes of roasted coffee.
Bing cherry, wild flowers, and mineral jump out of the glass. On the palate, flavors of crushed raspberry are complemented by nuances of roasted coffee and earthen spice.
The wine is lush and full, showing seamless tannins. Explosive fresh blackberry is accented by more complex flavors of wild lavender, mineral and Provencal herbs.
There is both concentration and power. Black cherry and hints of black pepper coalesce into rich notes of baked cobbler in the mid-palate. The lush tannins and bright acid mesh perfectly, showing the wine’s aging potential there is both concentration and power.
Flavors of black currant, blackberry and dark chocolate jump out of the glass. Focused on the entry, this wine has great weight without being clumsy. Flavors of currant and plum give way to the subtler nuances of sweet oak and earthen spice.
Dried berry fruit, crushed rock and sweet oak are the first aromas to greet the senses. The fruit is dense on the palate, giving way to notes of cigar box and loamy earth. The weight of this wine is immense, coating the entire palate in velvety tannins. The finish is a dichotomy of power and finesse: Broad, full tannins are balanced by seamless acidity.
On the entry the wine is round and full, yet it retains its balance, showing a measure of finesse through the finish. Anise, espresso grounds and black cherry coat the palate in glorious fashion. The tannins are velvety but still have enough weight to sustain 8+ years of aging.
Aromas of dried savory herbs, pencil lead, and cranberry interfuse with the sweet oak. The wine has great weight, yet is light on its feet. Fruit of red currant and crème de cassis are complemented by quintessential Cabernet Franc flavors of crushed gravel and flint.
Asian plum, blueberry and persimmon flavors form a cola-esque character. More complex flavors of leather and herb meld gracefully with the fruit notes, echoing traditional, rustic Syrah.
The 2014 Rockpile Petite Sirah is dark and brooding. The nose is a beautiful balance between baked blackberry pie, wet stone, and espresso grounds. The palate is round and full, showcasing fresh black plum with nuances of dried summer herbs.
