2013 Zinfandel, Westphall Ridge Vineyard
Russian River Valley
Westphall Ridge Vineyard
11 months in oak barrels 100% French
The Westphall Ridge Vineyard is located at nearly 1,400 ft.-elevation in the Rockpile appellation, which is the highest in elevation of all of our single vineyard wines. This vineyard is characterized by its western sun exposures, red volcanic soil and steep slope. This sun exposure provides phenolic maturity without overripe flavors. The soil composition and extreme slope are what really set this Zinfandel apart, continually yielding intense floral notes layered with an iron minerality.
Mother Nature was more restrained in her production of the 2013 vintage, resulting in smaller than normal berry size. As a result, the 2013 Westphall Ridge Zinfandel has profound depth and intensity. High-toned red fruit and mineralality jump out of the glass with traces of violet candy. On the palate, flavors of fresh red raspberry and rose hip are complemented by nuances of roasted coffee and white pepper. The entry is bright and lush with a full and round finish. Enjoy the 2013 Westphall Ridge Vineyard over the next 5-7 years.
