2014 Rockpile "Buck Pasture"
85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot, 2% Merlot, 1% Malbec
22 months in oak barrels 100% French
Pronounced aromatics of black cherry, milk chocolate, and roasted coffee waft from the glass while an underlying pulse of dried wild brush and earth elements linger with the second evaluation of the wine. The entry is soft and exhibits such beautiful harmony for such a young wine. Cedar, leather, mocha, and juicy ripe berry overlay the supple tannins and long finish. This wine exhibits tremendous energy, thus enjoy it over the next two to twelve years.
In 25 years, when we look back on the 2012, 2013 and 2014 vintages, I believe that it will go down in history as the greatest three-year stretch California has ever seen. It is nearly impossible to say one is better than another. A more accurate statement is that all three vintages are outstanding, yet showcase different nuances of the respective varietal. This 3 year timespan of nearly perfect growing conditions has enabled us to practice great winemaking with the 2014 vintage being the pinnacle. Our 2014 Rockpile Buck Pasture Red Wine is vibrant and rich in detail.
