Briary blackberry, summer boysenberry, orange peel, and hints of sweet baking spices punctuate the nose of this wine. On the entry there is an explosion of focused blue fruit followed by fresh espresso grounds and leather. Despite that this wine is tightly wound; it shows remarkable balance and freshness. The intensity and focus of the 2015 Cemetery Vineyard Zinfandel will allow it to age beautifully over the next 8-10 years.
Our family’s Rockpile Ridge Vineyards are located at nearly 1,200 ft.-elevation in the Rockpile appellation. The Cemetery block gets its name from the unusual outcropping of rock at the bottom of the vineyard that resembles giant headstones. This area of the ranch has been called the Cemetery for over 140 years. The Cemetery Vineyard straddles the Rodgers Creek Fault, one of the more active earthquake faults in Northern California, giving it amazing diversity of soil composition.
