Tasting Notes
Our 2016 Pritchett Peaks Zinfandel is at first shy on the nose but then slowly unveils a beautiful bouquet of fresh crushed black raspberry, violet blossom and flaking brioche. The entry is linear and fresh, continuing to an explosive mid-palate of young lilac and summer raspberry and an underlying pulse of perfectly interwoven oak carrying on to the finish. Elegant and restrained, this wine would greatly benefit from at least one additional year in the bottle. Enjoy it over the next 8-10 years.
Vineyard Notes
My family purchased this property that borders our original 1868 homestead, nearly 10 years ago. Located at approximately 1,250 feet in elevation, at the top of the Rockpile ridgeline, this vineyard site represents a completely different terroir than our other Rockpile Zinfandels. Characterized by its Eastern sun exposure, this block only gets direct sunlight early in the morning, and, with a nearly 30-degree slope, it has optimal drainage and wind exposure.
Winemaker Notes
The Pritchett Peaks are the mountains that form the eastern border of Lake Sonoma and are named after the Pritchett family, some of the earliest Rockpile area settlers.
