2016 Zinfandel Uncle's Block
15 months in oak barrels 100% French
Fragrant, delicate red Bing cherry, dustings of sweet baking spices, dried wild rose and dried fig compote intermingle in the aromatics. Flavors include perfumed red raspberry, rose hips and hints of dried cranberry. Elegant and driven by a purity of fruit, the silky textured mid-palate and refined tannins give way to a fresh and lengthy finish. Despite its shyness and elegance, this wine is absolutely exceptional and will drink beautifully over the next 10-12 years.
Located at nearly 1,300-ft in elevation at the top of the Rockpile ridgeline, Uncle’s Block is part of my family’s original homestead and is now owned by my uncle, Chris Mauritson. This vineyard is characterized by its eastern sun exposure, volcanic soil, steep slope and lack of water. This incredible site is one of our most stressed vineyards and it is reflected in the wine.
