2017 Mauritson Sauvignon Blanc
Dry Creek Valley
Dry Creek Valley
100% Sauvignon Blanc
50% Stainless Steel 50% Foudre fermented
Our Sauvignon Blanc is both classic in its freshness and nuanced in its aromas and flavors. Lemon-lime zest, yellow peach, white magnolia blossom, and traces of wet stone waft from the glass. The entry is bright and focused. On the palate, complex flavors of candied grapefruit and honeydew rind give way to a finish that is clean and soft with balanced acidity. Enjoy this wine with light appetizers, salads, seafood dishes or on its own on a warm summer evening.
The Mauritson Dry Creek Valley Sauvignon Blanc embodies our core philosophy at the winery: Wine is made in the vineyard! There is minimal oak and no malolactic conversion on this wine. It is truly one of the purest expressions of Sauvignon Blanc you will find in California.
Over the past few years, we have been experimenting with different blocks of Sauvignon Blanc at Hardie Ranch in addition to a new estate vineyard on West Dry Creek Road, named Elvin. This harvest we had over 6 different picks to choose from during our blending of this beautiful estate Dry Creek Valley Sauvignon Blanc. Each lot was hand- harvested, whole-cluster pressed and fermented separately to achieve maximum depth and complexity. Some blocks fermented and aged in our 75hL oak foudre and others in stainless steel tanks. The vegetative cycle of the vine was relatively compressed this year due to the extremely wet winter that delayed bud break by over a week followed by a very cool spring. Our vines had much greater vegetation to fruit ratio, slowing down ripening and developing the nuances we strive for.
