Tasting Notes
Our 2015 Buck Pasture is initially a little shy but then opens up to a wonderful bouquet of shaved milk chocolate, dusty rose petal, red current, dried brush and coffee cake crumbles. With extended time in the glass, a pulse of earthy loam joins the primary sweet aromas. The mouthfeel is silky with finely chiseled tannins giving way to flavors of cigar box, leather, mocha and juicy ripe berry. Delicious combinations of ripe and savory undertones play beautifully with the long and refined finish. Enjoy this wine over the next 12 years.
Winemaker Notes
The three year stretch of 2012, 2013 and 2014 vintages is a tough act to follow due to how forgiving Mother Nature was during those growing seasons. 2015 was marked by a dry and warm growing season except during May when cool, foggy days prolonged bloom time causing millerange (unfertilized berries) a light crop and a very condensed harvest. As winemakers, we had many more touch points during the 2015 vintage both in the vineyard and once the fruit arrived at the winery. We implemented new sorting techniques and adjusted maceration protocols on a block by block basis as the fruit was quickly arriving. Our early efforts paid off, creating wines with greater complexity, balance, and concentration in a rather challenging year that could have easily ran away from us.
