2019 Rockpile "Madrone Spring"
36% Petite Sirah, 34% Zinfandel, 30% Syrah
14 months in oak barrels 100% French
Our family’s Rockpile Ridge Vineyard is located at nearly 1,200 feet in elevation in the Rockpile appellation. The Madrone Spring block is composed of three distinct varieties: Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Syrah. These three varietals grow in the coolest microclimate in Rockpile due to its northwest orientation, thus producing wines of freshness and distinction. The blocks are harvested at different times and fermented separately to maintain the integrity and uniqueness of the individual blocks. Our intention was to create a blend that not only exemplifies this unique area of our original homesteaded property but also showcases the extraordinary affinity and alchemy of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Syrah.
Our Madrone Spring Red Wine has historically been a blend dominated by Zinfandel and complemented with Petite Sirah and Syrah. Regardless of the varietal breakdown, our intention is to always make the best blend that represents the Madrone Spring Vineyard in that vintage-never formulaic. Petite Sirah is the dominant varietal in our 2019 Madrone Spring, and the effusive candied blue fruit on the nose is the telltale indicator. There is also a beautiful floral edge to the aromatic profile of ground fresh lavender and violet. The exotic fruit profile persists on the palate but then deepens with a more serious notes of espresso grounds, leather, dried meats and dark earthen tones. Concentrated and full-bodied with great freshness, this delicious red wine blend would benefit from at least 12 months of bottle age. Enjoy over the next 10+ years.
