2019 Rockpile Malbec
Buck Pasture Vineyard
16 months in oak barrels, 100% French
On the nose, this wine exudes crushed fresh summer-ripened blackberry, perfumy violet petals, candied blueberry and a subtle pulse of shaved green peppercorn. With some aeration, the palate opens to juices of a baked blackberry cobbler. Silky tannins, with details of roasted coffee bean complement the long dark-fruit and energetic finish. Enjoy our 2019 Rockpile Malbec over the next 5-7 years.
Back in the early days at our family’s ranch, when you wanted to find a big buck, you went to the Buck Pasture. These days, the Buck Pasture is home to some of our Bordeaux varieties: Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. With an elevation of nearly 1,100 feet, an average slope of 25 degrees and sweeping southwestern sun exposures, it’s a perfect place to grow Malbec. Composed primarily of gravelly loam soils, there is very little water retention, which limits the vigor and yield of these vines.
