Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
On the nose, enticing aromas of ripe Golden Delicious
apple skin, flakes of freshly baked kouign-amann pastry and
sun-kissed magnolia blossom meet hints of crushed Marcona
almond. On the palate, this wine exudes purity and
elegance. The entry is quite fresh and inviting and with
wonderful creaminess that comes from nine months of
intermittent bâtonnage, and then an additional five months
of aging with minimal oxygen incursion, maintaining the
wine’s energy. Subtle minerality frames the crisp green pear
and delicate honey notes. Bottled unfiltered, this
Chardonnay will drink gracefully over the next 5-8 years.
Vineyard Notes
This single vineyard Chardonnay uses grapes grown on the
benchlands of the western Santa Rosa Plain, in the Russian
River Valley. The European-style high density planting
results in smaller yields per vine and greater concentration
in the resulting wine. The fruit is hand-harvested from just
five rows atop a tiny plateau that is planted exclusively to the
famous Wente Chardonnay clone known for producing
beautifully detailed and precise wines.
Winemaker Notes
Our 2020 Russian River Valley Chardonnay showcases the
beautiful ripe fruit of California Chardonnay balanced with
the elegance and complexity of its Burgundian ancestor. The
wine is 100% barrel-fermented with 23% new French oak
aged on 100% gross lees.
