Tasting Notes
Our 2021 Buck Pasture takes full advantage of this
incredible fruit. It’s multi-dimensional on the nose, with
intriguing aromas of red and dark fruits, sweet forest floor,
sweet spice, dark cacao and savory herbs. While it’s generous
on the palate, both in its fruit layers and richness, it
ultimately represents a rare glimpse into the softer side of
Rockpile. This excellent wine should be cherished over the
next 2 to 12 years.
Vineyard Notes
At the time of budbreak in late March, we had only received
about 20 percent of our annual rainfall, so many growers
decided early on to drop fruit earlier in the season to
preserve vine strength and to keep fruit exposure moderate.
Despite this dry growing season, the ripening period that
followed from mid-August to late October was nearly
flawless. The long warm Fall days created the opportunity
for grapes to linger on the vines, patiently waiting to be
harvested at their ultimate balance of flavor, freshness and
intensity.
