Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Our 2021 Rockpile Madrone Spring returns to a blend
composition that is in line with some of the earliest iterations of
this detailed wine. Dominant notes of candied black cherry,
blackberry compote, blue floral tones and shaved vanilla pod give
way to minor notes of summer-warmed dried coastal underbrush,
cedar and cured meats. Firm yet velvety tannins give this wine a
measure of approachability, but the staying power and freshness
inherent in all Rockpile wines provide an even greater level of
promise. This gorgeous red wine blend would benefit from at least
12+ months of bottle age. Enjoy over the next 7+ years.
Vineyard Notes
Our family’s Rockpile Ridge Vineyard is located at nearly 1,200
feet in elevation in the Rockpile appellation. The Madrone Spring
block is composed of three distinct varietals: Zinfandel, Petite Sirah
and Syrah. These three varietals grow in the coolest microclimate
in Rockpile, due to its northwest orientation, and produce wines
of great freshness and distinction. The blocks are harvested at
different times and fermented separately to maintain the integrity
and uniqueness of each block.
Winemaker Notes
Our intention with the Madrone Spring is to create a blend that
not only exemplifies this unique area of our original homesteaded
property but also showcases the extraordinary affinity and alchemy
of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Syrah. Originally, the wine was dominated by Zinfandel and
complemented with Petite Sirah and Syrah, though that has varied
by release. Regardless of the varietal breakdown, our goal is always
to make the best blend that expresses the Madrone Spring
Vineyard in a specific vintage.
